2028 Hong-Kong to Singapore - Azamara Cruise

For years, a cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore has been on our travel wish list. Then we discovered this Azamara itinerary, and it looked like the perfect opportunity to make that dream a reality! As with many of our cruises, we enjoy adding some land-based exploring before and after sailing. Our pre-cruise stay will also give us a chance to recover from jet lag and adjust to the time zone without sacrificing any precious cruise days.

We're still working out the details of our time in Hong Kong, so that part of the itinerary is a work in progress. More to come!

Then It's Time to Cruise!

Map of Asia cruise route

After our time exploring Hong Kong, it's finally time for the main event - the cruise! The itinerary looks fabulous, and the map above gives you an idea of the journey ahead. We'll be sailing through Southeast Asia, visiting fascinating ports in Vietnam and Thailand before finishing in Singapore.

With only a few sea days, this is going to be a port-packed adventure! That's another reason we're spending time exploring beforehand - we want to be rested and ready for all those ports, sightseeing, evenings, shows, and onboard fun!

    Cruising...

At Sea (Day #2): A day at sea - no ports to reach, no tours to catch, and no alarms to set! Time to explore the ship, find our favorite hangouts, enjoy a leisurely lunch, and officially settle into cruise mode. Let the good times begin!

Ha Long Bay, Vietnam Ha Long Bay, Vietnam Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

Ha Long Bay, Vietnam (Days #3-4): Ha Long Bay is one of Vietnam's most spectacular natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its emerald-green waters are dotted with thousands of limestone islands and rocky outcrops, creating a landscape that looks almost otherworldly. The bay is also steeped in legend. Its name means "Descending Dragon," inspired by the story of a dragon and her children who came down from the heavens to help protect Vietnam from invaders. Small fishing communities have traditionally made their homes on the water, adding another layer of character to this remarkable place. With an overnight stay, we'll have extra time to take in the scenery and experience more of what makes Ha Long Bay so special. It's sure to be one of the highlights of our time in Vietnam!

    Hue, Vietnam Hue, Vietnam

Hue, Vietnam (Day #5): Hue is a historic city in central Vietnam, situated along the banks of the Perfume River. It served as the imperial capital of the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945 and was the country's political, cultural, and religious center for much of that period. The city's most famous attraction is the Imperial City, a massive walled complex that includes the impressive Dai Noi Citadel and the former Forbidden Purple City. Beyond the citadel, Hue is known for its elaborate royal tombs, many of them set among beautiful gardens and peaceful hillside landscapes. With its imperial history, architecture, and riverside setting, Hue sounds like a fascinating place to explore.

At Sea (Day #6): Today's agenda? Absolutely nothing... and we're perfectly happy about that! Maybe a little time by the pool, a good book, a favorite drink, or simply watching the ocean roll by. Sometimes the best plans are the ones you don't make.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam (Days #7-8): Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam's largest city and its bustling economic center. It's a fascinating mix of old and new, where French colonial buildings and historic landmarks stand alongside modern skyscrapers and busy shopping districts. The city was once the capital of French Cochinchina and later South Vietnam, until the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. One of its most striking modern landmarks is Landmark 81, an impressive 81-story skyscraper that has become part of the city's changing skyline.

Ho Chi Minh City is also famous for its lively street life, colorful markets, wonderful food, and seemingly endless flow of motorbikes! With two days in port, we'll have an opportunity to experience some of the city's history and culture while enjoying the energy of this remarkable metropolis.

At Sea (Day #9): By now, we're getting to know the ship and discovering a few favorite spots. Today is a chance to enjoy more of what Azamara has to offer - good food, relaxing lounges, onboard entertainment, and perhaps a little friendly competition. There's always something to enjoy!

Bangkok, Thailand Bangkok, Thailand Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok (Laem Chabang), Thailand (Days #10-11): Our cruise ship will dock at Laem Chabang, Thailand's major deep-water port on the eastern Gulf of Thailand. Located about 125 kilometers (78 miles) southeast of Bangkok and 25 kilometers (16 miles) north of Pattaya, Laem Chabang is the main gateway for cruise passengers visiting the Thai capital. Bangkok itself is a fascinating city of contrasts, where ornate temples and royal palaces sit alongside modern skyscrapers, busy markets, and lively shopping districts. It's also famous for its street food, colorful riverfront, and bustling traffic. Since we'll be in port overnight, we'll have time to venture into Bangkok and experience some of the sights and sounds of this energetic city.

Koh Samui, Thailand Koh Samui, Thailand Koh Samui, Thailand

Koh Samui, Thailand (Day #12): Koh Samui is Thailand's second-largest island, located in the Gulf of Thailand off the coast of Surat Thani Province. Known for its white-sand beaches, tropical jungles, coconut groves, and relaxed resort atmosphere, it sounds like a wonderful change of pace after the busy cities. The island offers a little bit of everything, from beautiful coastlines and crystal-clear water to lush hillsides, golden Buddha statues, and ornate Buddhist temples. It's the kind of place that makes you want to kick off your shoes, find a shady spot, and enjoy island life!

Chaweng is the island's liveliest and most developed area, with a long beach, shopping, restaurants, and plenty of nightlife. Lamai, a little farther south, offers a somewhat more relaxed atmosphere, with its own beautiful beach, night markets, and seaside dining. We'll have to see which part of the island catches our attention!

At Sea (Day #13): Our final sea day before arriving in Singapore! We'll make the most of every minute - soaking up the ocean views, enjoying another delicious meal, and perhaps raising a glass to a wonderful cruise. No need to rush; there's still one more day of vacation to enjoy!

    Singapore - After the Cruise

Our plans for Singapore in 2028 will take shape as hotel reservations become available. We last visited Singapore at the end of an Australian cruise in 2025, and we enjoyed it so much that we couldn't wait to return! We plan to revisit some of our favorite places while adding a few new experiences to the list. After all, there's always more to see and do in Singapore. For now, this part of the itinerary is a work in progress. More to come!
